Job van Eldijk has recently published 'The wrong side of the tracks: quantifying barrier effects of transport infrastructure on local accessibility' in a special issue of Transportation Research Procedia. In his article he reviews the barrier effects of motorways and railways and presents two morphological indicators to quantify those effects. The results demonstrate the importance of taking into account transport infrastructure, built environment and people’s needs when assessing barrier effects, and shows the potential of the proposed indicators for inclusion in a method for the quantification of barrier effects.
